What Our Patients Say
The Coastal Living Reason for the Wrinkles You're Seeing Now
You hear it constantly. A person moves to Murrells Inlet, spends several years soaking in the marsh views and ocean breeze, then takes a peek at themselves in the mirror one day and wonders, "When did those wrinkles appear?"

You aren't imagining things. Living near the coast does hasten how your skin ages. There is no mercy from the sun here. In fact, even when the sun isn't out and it's cloudy over the water at the MarshWalk, the UV rays still hit your face.
The UV rays bounce off the water and hit you from places you wouldn't expect. You are now double your exposure to the sun without knowing. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 80 percent of UV rays pass through clouds. So when the skies are gray over the Lowcountry, they aren't giving your skin the protection you think they are.
It's not just the sun, either. Salt in the air will rob your skin's outer layer of moisture. The humidity might make you feel like you're taking in moisture, but it doesn't. The salt in the coastal winds takes moisture away, bit by bit.
And your skin is drier than you realize. And dry skin doesn't bounce back. It makes fine lines more noticeable, makes lines settle, and keeps those wrinkles in.
We see a few patterns emerge in Murrells Inlet over and over when we see folks come to us for wrinkle reduction:
- Fine lines at your eyes that seem to come out of nowhere after a summer of being on the boat or on the beach
- Lines in your forehead that get deeper the more years you spent looking over a creek from the dock with no shade
- Lines around your mouth that get worse from the amount of wind you get standing on the pier
- Aging in your neck and chest that is older than the skin on the rest of your face
And it's not just about people who fish or enjoy being on the water. If you garden in your yard in the area near Burgess or take your dog on the bike path, the incidental sun is a factor. And over the years, the sun's cumulative damage will break down the collagen and the elastin you need to have smooth, firm skin.
This isn't about discouraging you from getting outside. That's the reason you moved here in the first place. It's just that you need to do something about your wrinkles that you'd otherwise not have to do if you lived a couple hours away. In fact, the best way to get wrinkles reduced is to make sure that the cause is identified before you have wrinkles reduced, and instantly when you walk into our Med Spa what the wrinkle cause is in coastal living.
How to Know What's the Best Wrinkle Reduction Treatment for You
We talk to our clients in Murrells Inlet almost daily about how not every wrinkle needs the same reduction treatment.
Lines around your eyes don't behave the same way deep lines in your forehead do. Skin on your neck isn't the same as skin in your cheeks. One treatment isn't likely to address all of these. We assess your current facial presentation before we make any recommendations, as the incorrect course of treatment squanders both your time and your funds.
The key considerations are:
- The condition and type of your skin. Lighter skins react differently to different types of peels than darker skins, and we always take this into consideration when determining the type of chemical peel you are a good candidate for.
- Where your lines are located. Crow's feet, forehead lines, and lines on and around the lips each require different types of treatments.
- How deep your wrinkles actually run. Shallow lines may only require a medical grade chemical peel or microdermabrasion, while deeper lines will probably require the use of BOTOX or dermal fillers in order to see any improvement.
- Your overall health, including lifestyle choices. How much time you spend outside on a typical day, how much you smoke, and how much water you drink all have an effect on how well you will respond to cosmetic treatments.
We have clients who think they need BOTOX and fillers when a medical grade facial and microdermabrasion may be the correct choice. A simple examination of the skin at the clinic will tell you more than you may expect. The simple examination of your skin and a short conversation about your goals will tell you more than you might expect, and it's the beginning of our treatment recommendations. This assessment is nothing more complicated than a look under proper lights, an examination of your goals, and a discussion of what is realistic and what is not.
Some of our clients are looking for minor improvement so they just look "more rested." Others are looking for more noticeable improvement. Either is fine, however a realistic starting point is required. One thing we don't do is recommend treatments that are unnecessary. the efficacy of every cosmetic injectable and skin rejuvenation treatment based on the many years of experience we've had using them. If a simple solution is the right treatment for you, that's what we'll recommend.

First Appointment to Treat Wrinkles at Our Murrells Inlet Practice
The first visit to our Murrells Inlet office is a chance for us to really get to know each other, as well as for us to learn about your personal preferences, lifestyle habits, and cosmetic goals. We'll sit down and take a close look at the areas of your face that are the biggest sources of worry for you, and ask what you'd like to see change. We'll be able to explain exactly how our cosmetic treatments can help you, whether they're forehead lines, crow's feet, or stubborn horizontal lines between your eyebrows, or whatever else might be bothering you. There will be no confusing guesses and no sales pressure.

The Consultation
We'll begin by gathering information about your medical history, because certain medications and health conditions do affect how a person will respond to cosmetic procedures. We need to know your allergies, your history of previous cosmetic treatments and surgeries, and what medications you're taking currently. Most patients are good candidates for immediate treatment, though some may require additional assessment. We won't hesitate to tell you about these matters.
- Next, we look for facial muscles and see where the wrinkles form by asking you to make facial expressions that bring out those creases, and we'll use that information to help us decide whether to go in with BOTOX and dermal fillers or a medical grade chemical peel.
The Treatment
Your treatment is administered at the Murrells Inlet location of our practice. The actual injections take about ten to fifteen minutes depending on how many areas we're treating. We apply a numbing cream if you want it, though most people skip this step because the needles are tiny.
Recovery
After a day or two you may experience some mild redness, swelling, or bruising, though this typically subsides within 24 hours. The vast majority of patients return to their usual routine the same day.
Most clients will see results within a few days of your treatment and some even begin noticing improvements a day or so after the first appointment. Your doctor will let you know the full effect of BOTOX, and dermal filler results usually start to show up in about one to two weeks. The effects of your cosmetic rejuvenation treatment will generally last between three to six months, with some people experiencing slightly longer results while others may require the treatment at more frequent intervals. For many clients, their preferred interval is about four months, while some choose to have the treatments at six month intervals and some every month or every two months.
If you're not completely satisfied with your results after four months or so, you'll still have BOTOX in your system at that time and there is still some room to improve your results.
Don't hesitate to ask questions about your treatment options. Your cosmetic physician will go over all your options, your medical history, and will take a careful look at any wrinkles or creases that are a concern to you. Your first appointment will be at our practice, and your doctor will determine the best course of treatment for your aesthetic desires. Don't leave anything to chance.
Let us know how you want your cosmetic treatment to improve the lines that bother you, and we'll help you reach your goals using the appropriate products, techniques, and amounts, as well as the appropriate number of treatment sessions needed to get the best results for you.
What Happens When You Have Your Wrinkle Reducing Treatment
The Consultation
We'll begin by gathering information about your medical history, because certain medications and health conditions do affect how a person will respond to cosmetic treatments. We need to know your allergies, your history of previous treatments and surgeries, and the medications you're taking currently. Most clients are good candidates for immediate treatment, though some may require additional assessment. We won't hesitate to tell you about these matters.
- Next, we look at your facial muscles and see where the wrinkles form by asking you to make facial expressions that accentuate those creases, and we'll use that information to help us decide whether to treat the area with BOTOX and dermal fillers or a medical grade chemical peel.
The Treatment
Your treatment is administered at our Murrells Inlet office. The actual injections take about ten to fifteen minutes depending on how many areas we're treating. We apply a numbing cream if you want it, though most people skip this step because the needles are tiny.
Recovery
There may be some slight redness, swelling, or bruising on the skin, but this usually goes away within one or two days. Most people will resume normal activities on the day of your treatment. Results are usually seen after only a couple of days and in some cases may be visible the day after your first appointment, but the effects may not be fully visible until a couple of weeks later. Most clients will maintain their treatment results for three to six months, and some clients have experienced results that have lasted as long as a year while others have found it necessary to have BOTOX or dermal fillers at one to two month intervals.
It's not uncommon for our clients to find the result interval to be four months, while other clients find every six months to work better, and some clients have needed treatment on as frequent as a monthly basis.
- We clean your treatment area and draw the tiny injection sites using a skin-safe marker.
- We offer topical numbing cream, although most people don't use it since the needles are really small.
- Most treatments are complete within 10-15 minutes, depending on the number of areas you'd like to treat.
- We provide a hand mirror to show you the injection locations, and we review all at-home aftercare instructions together.
Concerned about the pain? The vast majority of Inlet Square patients describe the sensation as more of a quick nip. It is nothing more.
You typically won't observe the full results for roughly one to two weeks, as it takes time for the injection to fully take effect in the muscles and your skin to relax. We schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks post-treatment to assess the results and discuss any fine-tuning you may desire.
There is no downtime, as you can drive home after your injection and even return to the office immediately. Some people even meet friends for lunch at the MarshWalk right afterward. You'll need to avoid exercise, lying down flat, or rubbing your face for the first few hours. We send you home with a printed list of these instructions so there is no need to remember everything you've heard.

Results Timeline and What You'll Notice After Treatment
We tell all our new clients the same thing: don't check the mirror tomorrow morning expecting instant changes.
Wrinkle reduction isn't instantaneous. It's more of a slow evolution. The first few days, you may see some swelling or small bumps where you were injected, and that's perfectly normal. Four to five days after treatment, Murrells Inlet patients often begin to sense that the muscles are starting to relax.
The results usually become evident around seven to fourteen days after treatment. That's when you see yourself in the bathroom mirror and say, "That's the look I want."
What to Expect by the Week
- Days 1-3: There may be mild swelling or bruising at the injection site. You should be able to go back to your regular routine as you can continue working and running errands, however, heavy exercises should be avoided for 24 hours.
- Days 4-7: You may notice the injected muscles becoming relaxed and less pronounced, causing the treated lines to smooth out, including your forehead lines and crow's feet lines.
- Days 10-14: Results begin to show their full potential. We love this time of the follow-up appointments.
- Weeks 3-4: Maximum effect. You should look rested, not like a statue, and others may notice but won't be sure what changed.
- Months 3-4: The Botox will start to wear off and muscle tone will return, prompting you to schedule your next appointment.
This is the common reaction from our new Murrells Inlet patients upon returning for their follow-up appointment: "I wish I had done this sooner!" It is such a subtle change that is why many people enjoy Botox, as they look like them, only they look better.
Your results will actually get better with consistent treatment, as the muscles gradually learn how to relax for a longer period. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that many patients who follow a schedule typically see results for a longer period and often require a smaller amount of unit injections as treatment progresses.
If your first treatment lasts around three months, then your subsequent treatments (say, two or three) may extend closer to four months. We document everything for you, which includes units used, your schedule, and what worked best so that each session builds on your previous treatments. No guesswork is required and you will witness steady results in the mirror.
Maintaining Results Year-Round
Wrinkle reduction isn't just a one-and-done treatment.

Think of it this way: You don't go to the gym once and expect to be in shape indefinitely. Your skin is the same. The great news, however, is that once you've had some initial treatments, maintenance is easier than your initial treatments. This has been the experience for many of our clients in Murrells Inlet who continue with maintenance and stay with regular treatments; their results have continued to improve rather than deteriorate.
Those who maintain a regular treatment schedule always seem to have the better appearance compared to those who wait until the fine lines and wrinkles return before they reach back for help.
What does maintenance look like? It will depend on what was used to achieve your desired results, but in general:
- Schedule your follow-up treatment before you leave. If you were treated with injectables, set up your next treatment at three to four months. For skin treatments, we recommend a sooner time frame.
- Don't forget to protect your skin. Sunscreen is a must, especially in the summer with all the sun we get at the beach and while you're out on the MarshWalk.
- Prioritize other treatments between visits. For example, a medical-grade facial or chemical peel can be done every few weeks for faster cell regeneration and renewal.
- Look out for changes. As soon as you begin to see a wrinkle or fine line reappear, it's a call-in for a treatment.
In addition, make sure your skin is properly moisturized. We love Murrells Inlet, but this is a salt-heavy environment which can really strip moisture from the skin.
We've been at this long enough to see that maintenance is easier than a major overhaul. A client in Burgess told us that she used to come in just for twice a year for a major overhaul treatment. Her newer plan is for smaller maintenance treatments every few months. The end result is more natural and it allows for more time between visits.
And that's the idea: maintain results and keep everything looking great and natural. Everyone wants to see you look great, but no one needs to know exactly what you're doing to make that happen.
So it becomes about creating a routine for maintenance that works for your skin. And, again, everyone is different so you're not the same patient you were at age 45. That's perfectly fine.
Wrinkle reduction is one of the treatments in our health spa services at Jolie Visage in Murrells Inlet. If you want to address more than fine lines, we can build a plan that covers your other skin goals too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about wrinkle reduction services in Murrells Inlet
How does living near the Murrells Inlet coast affect how fast wrinkles form?
Coastal living speeds up skin aging faster than most people expect. Salt air pulls moisture from your skin's outer layer, and UV rays bounce off the water and marsh, doubling your sun exposure. That combination breaks down collagen and elastin faster than inland living does. Crow's feet, forehead lines, and lip lines all tend to show up earlier in people who spend time near the inlet, even casually.
What wrinkle reduction treatments are available, and how do I know which one is right for me?
The right treatment depends on where your wrinkles are and how deep they go. Surface-level lines often respond well to chemical peels or microneedling. Deeper creases usually do better with BOTOX or dermal fillers. We look at your skin under good light, ask about your goals, and give you an honest recommendation. We won't push you toward something you don't need.
What happens during a first wrinkle reduction appointment in Murrells Inlet?
Your first visit starts with a conversation, not a sales pitch. We review your health history, look at the areas bothering you most, and explain exactly what treatment can realistically do. If we move forward, the injections take about ten to fifteen minutes. Most clients describe it as a quick pinch. You can drive yourself home and go right back to your normal day.
How long does it take to see results after wrinkle reduction treatment?
You won't see full results right away. Most people notice changes starting around three to five days after treatment, with full results showing at the one to two week mark. The treatment needs time to settle into the muscle before your skin smooths out. We schedule a follow-up at two weeks to check everything and make small adjustments if needed.
Is there any downtime after wrinkle reduction injections?
There is no real downtime after wrinkle reduction injections. You can drive yourself home, return to work, and go about your normal day right after your appointment. Some clients stop for lunch at the MarshWalk on the way out. You will have a few simple aftercare steps to follow, but nothing that keeps you off your feet or out of your routine.
Can I get wrinkle reduction treatment if I spend a lot of time outdoors near the inlet?
Yes, and honestly, outdoor enthusiasts near Murrells Inlet are some of the people who benefit most from wrinkle reduction. Years of squinting on the water, wind exposure, and reflected UV light leave a specific pattern on your skin that we see often. We factor your lifestyle into the treatment plan so results hold up well even with an active, outdoor routine.
