What Does Weight Loss Coaching Do (And What Does it Not Do)?
First things first. Weight loss coaching is NOT having someone create a diet plan for you and say good luck.

We hear that assumption so often when people walk into our Murrells Inlet location. They walk in assuming they'll receive a list of foods to eliminate and a few words of encouragement. And that's not what we do. Weight loss coaching involves you meeting with us on a regular basis, discussing what's happening to your body and what your daily life looks like, and working together to create a roadmap you can stick to.
It's intentional. It's clinical. And it adjusts to you as you evolve.
What does weight loss coaching look like?
- Ongoing consultations for you to track your progress and update your plan
- Advice on how to build sustainable healthy habits and resist sugar cravings
- Movement on medications like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Zepbound) in coordination with medical treatment
- Body composition analysis so you'll be focused on fat loss, not only the number on a scale
- Nutrition guidance to suit your lifestyle, what you love to eat, and your regular schedule
Chances are that if you're coming to visit us, you've tried to lose weight on your own already. You've downloaded an app. You've counted calories for three weeks. You've had some success, and then you put it back on.
You've probably done that a few times now. That's where having someone look at your data with you and catch the slip-up early on matters.
This weight loss coaching isn't a cure-all solution. It's not going to take the place of the effort that you're going to be putting into your own body and home life. And it's not going to be able to fix a physical health problem you have that hasn't been dealt with. Which is why we provide coaching and blood work and body fat measurements.
You need to provide us with all the info we need so what we're talking about before we make a recommendation.
So you may be able to change your own oil. But when the check engine light comes on, you want a mechanic looking under the hood with you. This is the same. People here in Murrells Inlet come to see us because they'd like someone like that checking their numbers and finding patterns and helping to keep them motivated every single day.
That's coaching. Not just pep talks and hopeful guesses. Actual advice that considers the signals your body's sending us.
Weight loss coaching is part of everything our Murrells Inlet weight loss service offers at Jolie Visage, keeping your progress on track.
Signs You're Ready for a Weight Loss Coach
You have downloaded diet apps. You have followed meal plans you found on the internet. Perhaps you have dropped 10 pounds, then gained back 15 pounds, and now you find yourself sitting in your car in the parking lot at Piggly Wiggly in Murrells Inlet wondering what went wrong with that last plan.
That isn't a mistake on your part. This is generally the moment that most of our clients contact us.
Coaching isn't just for people who've given up. It's for people who are ready for answers, who are tired of the guessing game. I see it all the time. "Doctor, I'm eating so healthy, I don't know why the scale won't move." "I've lost weight before, I just need that same plan back." Or, "It seems like the longer I wait, the harder it becomes to lose weight." It's true, you see it all the time.
A body has been built a certain way for 10, 15, 20 years, and to expect it to suddenly work a different way is unrealistic and unfair. Your body isn't the same as it was five, or even two years ago. Hormones change. Metabolism changes.
What works for you now isn't the same thing that worked for you then.
If you've noticed any of the following symptoms in your life, it is probably time to reach out to a professional for help and guidance in your weight loss journey:
- You have lost and regained the same amount of weight more than twice
- You feel stuck, even though you feel like you're doing everything right
- You get hit by sugar cravings in the afternoons and in the evenings
- You're having a hard time making healthy lifestyle choices due to low energy, fatigue, and/or lack of mental focus and concentration
- You don't know if your weight loss difficulty comes from food, hormones, metabolism, or all three
In my experience, it's usually a few of the above, not just one thing. This is exactly why weight loss coaching in Inlet is different from just downloading another weight loss plan. A weight loss coach doesn't just hand out a one-size-fits-all plan, they take a look at you holistically, at all of the components of who you are and how your body works. Your blood work, your history and habits, your stress levels, things that your downloaded weight loss app won't ever be able to ask about.
Plus, weight loss coaching in Inlet doesn't mean your doctor telling you that you're fat and need to stop eating so much junk and start doing burpees for hours on end. It means getting a weight loss coach to help you determine what is wrong inside your body, and how to address it, to create a weight loss plan that is truly sustainable for you.
Sometimes, you won't be sure if you need weight loss coaching or not, and that is completely normal, as this is a process of discovery, not one where you have an aha moment that "I finally know how to lose weight!" But, if you've read this page, and you've noticed that the text on here is actually resonating and catching your interest, it's probably worth it to explore further with us.
How the coaching process works, step by step
I think a lot of people, when thinking about working with a weight loss coach, wonder what the experience actually looks like. After you book with us, what does that look like? How do weight loss coaching appointments work from start to finish?

- Weight loss consultation booking. We sit together and talk, I want to hear about what you've tried, and what has and hasn't worked for you in the past. We're a safe place to be vulnerable and get real about what your weight loss challenges are.
- Body Composition Analysis & Blood work. I want real numbers from your body, not just an estimate. Your blood work will let me know things about your metabolism and thyroid function, as well as hormone levels that could be preventing you from successfully managing your body composition the way you want it to be.
- Create your plan. This will come from your blood work and results. I will create a clear, sustainable, personalized path for you to take, based on your results. For some people, that may include semaglutide injections or appetite suppressant medication. For others, it's just a plan for healthier nutrition and exercise. It all varies per body.
- Weight loss check-in. This is where most weight loss journeys fail. Not yours. You'll continue to come back in for weight loss check-ins and follow-ups with us, as I monitor your progress, make adjustments to your medications and plan, and help you stay on track and moving in the right direction.
- Learn skills that stick. We focus on creating positive habits and managing your sugar cravings, so you aren't white-knuckling your way through life. Ultimately, we want this to feel natural.
- Move into maintenance. We into maintenance once you hit your goal weight. You don't just leave once the goal is achieved.
People are always surprised at how straightforward our program is. And it is. It's simple to understand. The difficult part is sticking to it.
That's why we are with you from start to finish, right here in Murrells Inlet.
Typically, you can get in to see us within a week. We don't like to delay because it is easier to build early momentum. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get started.
Here is what sets us apart from a program you downloaded and a meal plan you found online. We are medically supervised. We can prescribe. We can run labs.
We can identify problems early on so they don't impede your progress. The app that tracks your food doesn't know that your low testosterone is sabotaging your weight loss. We do. And we see it every day.

Weight Loss Coaching for Coastal Routines and Life
As coastal residents, your life and lifestyle is vastly different from someone living inland. You can't expect a generic program to work for your situation.
We build your program around the life you're already living in Murrells Inlet. So, we take into account the seafood options at MarshWalk, family celebrations on weekends, or that boat ride where mealtime becomes inconvenient. Other plans hand you a list of instructions and wish you luck. We do not.
We sit down, talk about the life you are living every day and develop a plan that works with you.
We consider the following:
- Your work, drive time, and frequent trips to area restaurants
- Vacations or seasonal activities, because January weather is quite different from July weather.
- Your family and the social obligations associated with eating in a town with so many restaurants.
- Any medication or hormone treatment that is interfering with your metabolism.
We don't set your plan in stone. We recognize that plans made in March can fall apart in May due to your changes in schedule. We identify them in your regular check-ins to get you back on course before you get stuck.
Most people have already experienced some type of failure in their past with another weight loss program. They tried another rigid plan and tracked every food item for three weeks, burned out, and quit. Does this sound familiar? The key to breaking this pattern is creating a plan that works around your day and not against it.
We also include nutrition education to help you understand why those changes are important, not in a lecture way, but in quick, actionable information that you can use in the produce aisle or while perusing a menu at the local restaurant. All of this adds up over time so the choices that once took willpower become second nature. We've been coaching people on the south end of the Grand Strand for years. the local habits, know what can trip people up, and use our experience to keep you on track when your motivation falters.
Progress Is Measured Beyond the Scale
The number on the scale is one way to track your weight loss progress, but not the only way. We tell everyone who comes to our practice in Murrells Inlet the same thing: If you only weigh yourself, you'll miss the most important victories, and you'll likely give up before you should. By analyzing body composition, we can see exactly what's happening in your body. Muscle is more dense by volume than fat is, so your waist size can get two inches smaller, but you don't necessarily lose weight.
We see it week after week.

Here are the most important ways we measure progress in weight loss coaching with our Murrells Inlet clients:
- body fat percentage and the amount of lean muscle you've gained or lost over time
- how your clothes are fitting, how much energy you have, and the quality of your sleep
- your blood markers including fasting glucose levels and cholesterol
- total number of inches lost around your waist, hips and arms
- changes in your appetite and cravings as well as your mood Stability.
Blood work is one of the most important and most underutilized tools you can use to measure weight loss progress. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), almost 50% of adults with obesity also have prediabetes. If your hemoglobin A1c or your triglycerides improve as a result of weight loss, that's a more significant victory than losing five pounds on a random Tuesday morning.
We also take into account your overall quality of life. Are you now able to complete the MarshWalk with the family in one breath? Are you sleeping through the night for the first time in a decade? Those are some pretty major changes you can see even when the scale stays still.
Most people lose hope at about week three. Those who have their blood pressure go down or find that they have to get out a new belt are the ones who continue to lose weight, especially through the frustrating times of weight loss. And then there's the plateaus that seem to slow things down. If you're not seeing changes, how will you know?
That's why our coaching services include regular check-ins. We sit down together and review the entire picture so we can adjust your program based on all of your data and the way you are feeling. No guessing. Just you, your body and all of the numbers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about weight loss coaching services in Murrells Inlet
What happens during my first weight loss coaching visit in Murrells Inlet?
Your first visit is a one-on-one consultation where we listen to your history and run real numbers. We do a body composition analysis and review your blood work. You won't leave with a generic handout. You'll leave with a clear picture of what's actually going on in your body. Most people near Murrells Inlet get their first appointment within a week. Come ready to talk honestly about what you've tried before.
How is weight loss coaching different from just following a diet plan?
Weight loss coaching is medically supervised, which means we can run labs, prescribe medication, and adjust your plan as your body changes. A diet plan you find online can't check your hormone levels or catch a thyroid issue slowing your metabolism. Coaching means someone is watching your data with you at every step. That's why people who've tried everything else finally see results when they add real coaching support.
Can weight loss coaching help if I've already lost and regained the same weight multiple times?
Yes, and honestly that's one of the most common reasons people come see us in Murrells Inlet. Losing and regaining weight usually means something deeper is going on, like hormones, metabolism, or habits that haven't been addressed. We look at your blood work and body composition to find out what's actually working against you. Then we build a plan around that, not around what worked for someone else.
How often will I need to come in for check-ins near the Inlet Square area?
Check-in frequency depends on your plan, but most clients come in regularly during the active phase of coaching. We keep scheduling tight on purpose because early momentum matters. Clients near the Inlet Square area can usually get in quickly. These visits aren't just weigh-ins. We review your numbers, adjust doses if needed, and work through anything that's getting in your way that week.
Does weight loss coaching in Murrells Inlet include medication like semaglutide?
Yes, when it's appropriate for you, we can coordinate medical options like semaglutide or tirzepatide as part of your plan. Not everyone needs medication, and we never push it. Your blood work and body composition results guide that decision. Because we're medically supervised, we can prescribe, monitor, and adjust safely. That's something a coaching app or online meal plan simply cannot do for you.
What happens after I reach my weight loss goal?
We shift you into a maintenance phase so the weight stays off long term. Reaching your goal isn't the finish line with us. We keep working with you to build habits that feel normal, not like white-knuckling a strict plan forever. Most clients say this phase is where everything finally clicks. You've done the hard work, and now we help you make sure it sticks for good.
