What Our Patients Say
What Skin Rejuvenation Actually Treats
If you came into our Murrells Inlet clinic and said, "I need skin rejuvenation," you'd probably be the first. Patients rarely walk in that door with that phrase on their lips. More often, you'll find them pointing directly to a problem: a dark spot on their cheek that appeared in the summer of last year, fine lines around their eyes that are now impossible to conceal with makeup, or scars left behind by severe acne in their 20s that continue to plague them during their daily grooming routine.

This, is the nature of the procedure. Skin rejuvenation isn't a single cure-all for a solitary skin condition. It's actually a broad term that describes different treatments used to address different skin conditions.
So what are the most common issues we treat?
- The effects of the sun and uneven tone that result from the unique climate of the Lowcountry
- Acne scars that affect skin texture long after the acne has cleared up
- Melasma, which involves stubbornly pigmented patches of skin that can't be fixed with creams
- Fine lines and wrinkles in the areas around the eyes, mouth, and forehead
- Puffy or dull skin that no longer appears firm and healthy
Sun damage is, hands down, the number one reason our patients come to us. In a way, we expect nothing less. Our Murrells Inlet clinic is located right near the MarshWalk and along the creek, so patients naturally get out there into the sun during their day. As the sun's rays accumulate, they cause damage, which eventually begins to show itself in the skin's texture and tone, often much sooner than anticipated.
UV rays are the most significant cause of skin aging, which is according to the American Academy of Dermatology, so it's no surprise.
However, not everyone comes in seeking treatment for sun damage. We occasionally see customers from nearby areas, such as Garden City, who tell us that they feel as though the skin on their faces looks dull and "tired." It's as though something essential to the appearance of skin has diminished over the last several years. This is typically an issue of collagen production in your face, and treatments like microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and microneedling have all been shown to stimulate collagen production effectively.
What's more, some of our customers struggle with issues that affect the skin's texture. This can take many different forms, including rough skin, large pores, and acne scars or raised patches of scars. While skin texture concerns aren't typically a cause for concern, it's no doubt that a patient will feel discouraged if they don't like what they see in the mirror.
You don't need to diagnose yourself before you schedule your visit. We only need you to explain to us the problem with your skin. From there, we'll take care of the rest while we're there. We'll discuss with you what treatments can help you get your skin back to a healthy and beautiful condition, and then, together, we'll design a customized treatment plan that addresses the condition of your skin in the present moment and nothing else.
How to Choose the Right Treatment for Your Skin
This is where most patients find themselves in their treatment journey. You understand that your skin doesn't look as good as it used to, but that's all you have to go on. You aren't entirely sure what to do from here. You're not the only person to feel this way.
Our staff at Murrells Inlet receives these kinds of inquiries almost every single day. Often, a patient will walk into our clinic and state, "I just want my face to look rested." At other times, patients will show us the dark spots on their skin which they've attempted to conceal with makeup over the last few years. You are welcome to rely on us to handle this.
What Your Skin Is Telling You
Skin problems will indicate different courses of action. Here's how we narrow things down:
- Fine lines and rough skin, microneedling or dermaplaning will help here.
- Sun damage and discoloration, typically need a chemical peel or pigment treatment.
- Losing your bounce, you'll need skin tightening or a PRP facial.
- Picking at the scars from past acne, microneedling or a med-grade facial will make a dent.
- Dull complexion, microdermabrasion or a hydrating facial will brighten things up fast.
Of course, your skin isn't always that cut-and-dried. Often you'll be dealing with two or three different problems, not just one. You might think you have fine lines, but the real trouble might actually be the sun damage underneath. We see those types of layered challenges more often than not.
Whatever treatment you thought you needed after doing a quick Google search is probably not what you'll actually require.
Because of this, the first step of any skin rejuvenation regimen is a conversation. We look at your skin carefully under bright lights and ask about your skin type, any medications you may be taking, your age, your lifestyle and how much time you spend out in the sun. That matters a lot. The skin type alone can make some treatments safe for you and not others (per the American Academy of Dermatology).
We also know that there are times when the best solution is the simplest one. In fact, a medical-grade facial once a month might be more effective than a more aggressive treatment. Sometimes our clients need that first-time "tweak-up" to give us information that we can use in the future, so we recommend it.
There's no need to do something drastic just because you've never treated your skin. We'd rather get you on the right track. If you've got questions, give us a call so we can help you figure out the next steps.
Scheduling Matters for Beachside Skin
Many folks in Murrells Inlet take a wait-and-see attitude about their skin. They may get concerned when they first spot a wrinkle around their eyes or see a freckle on their cheek. Suddenly, everything has to be treated, and they're scrambling.

It can happen. The sooner you treat, the easier it will be overall to reverse the damage. But we do suggest that you think about it differently, more like you would the upkeep on your vessel at the boat slip. You don't wait until your boat's hull is full of cracks.
You get maintenance regularly.
The same goes for your skin and your body. Small fixes done early are easier than big fixes later.
So how does this apply to you? Here's a basic outline for your skin rejuvenation journey:
- Take an inventory, what does your baseline skin look like, and where do you need to work on it?
- Schedule your first round of treatments in the fall or winter, the summer heat means more exposure to UV rays.
- Book in a maintenance visit about every four to eight weeks, we'll determine this frequency based on the specific treatments you're getting.
Add some extra treatments in before summer hits to build up your skin's defense against salt air and sunlight. Check back in every six months so we can tweak the plan based on how your skin is reacting. Patients on a regimen like this are almost always going to look better than those who come in once a year to get a single treatment. Doing it regularly counts for way more than doing big, intense treatments.
Living on the coast throws a different variable into the mix, too. Yes, humidity is great for hydration, but salt air and constant UV reflection from the water speed up aging faster than you might think. The Skin Cancer Foundation says water reflects as much as 25 percent of UV rays back at you, which is a lot of added damage if you're out on the inlet on the weekends. We take this all into account when developing a plan.
The person who lives across town in Columbia isn't going to have the same challenges as you're dealing with here at Garden City. Your skin rejuvenation plan needs to be based on where you really live instead of some online generic plan. Going at it sooner won't mean doing more. It just means doing less, more often and getting better results in the long run.
What to Expect From Your Initial Visit to Your Final Outcome
When you come in for your first visit to us, we get started by talking to you. Your first skin rejuvenation appointment in our Murrells Inlet practice doesn't happen quickly. We examine your skin carefully under the best lighting you can provide, ask you questions about the past, and try to figure out exactly what's happening to your skin. Years of sun damage from strolling down MarshWalk?
Hormonal shifts? Acne scarring that didn't quite heal all the way? Each one of these requires a different treatment, so we always start there. Most patients say it's the first time ever someone has really looked at their skin with this much attention.
Here's a general outline of how a skin rejuvenation treatment unfolds once you know what you're starting with:
- We gently clean and exfoliate your skin. Then we apply a topical numbing cream, if the treatment calls for it. This will take you about 15 minutes.
- The clinician does the skin rejuvenation treatment you and we agreed on. It can be microneedling, chemical peels or an integrated approach. It takes you half an hour to an hour.
- Before you leave us, we apply calming lotions and sun protection to your skin.
- You leave with written instructions on how to take care of your skin at home. There will be no wondering what you should do after you get there.
- You schedule your follow-up visits in accordance with your customized plan, which are typically every four to six weeks.
Skin rejuvenation treatment doesn't provide instant results. It happens over time, as your skin has a chance to lay down new collagen and to bring the freshest skin cells to the top. You can see this at my practice all the time. We'll see someone back from their second session and they'll say, "I didn't think this was working until yesterday, and now, suddenly, I look so different!" Our clients in Murrells Inlet typically start to really notice a difference after two or three treatments.
Typically, the results are apparent after eight to 12 weeks, and the improvements to your skin's texture can continue to improve up until several months after the final treatment session.
Wondering about downtime? That depends on the specific treatment you receive. For some, they go out for dinner after the appointment at Garden City. Some clients have a bit of redness that can last for up to 24-48 hours, which varies based on the individual.
We are always upfront about what to expect and the expected downtime, so that there is always a pleasant, positive experience. Are you ready to see the possibilities of your skin? Give us a call today.

Protecting Your Results in a High-UV Environment
If you have chosen to take on rejuvenation treatment for your skin, the last thing that you want to do is to undo everything you have just spent the time and money to achieve over just one weekend spent walking around the MarshWalk.

Murrells Inlet has a lot of sun, throughout pretty much all year long. The light reflecting off the marsh waters and the inlet waters, can actually make it even more intense for your skin. This is something we let each client know about as they are leaving our office.
What UV Can Do to Your Just Treated Skin
After a treatment like chemical peels, microneedling, or microdermabrasion, you will be more susceptible to UV rays. New skin cells are being created, the collagen structure is being rebuilt, so the more delicate and new skin layer is more susceptible to the sun's damage, which could end up in more hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, or even negate all of the results of the treatment. We are sad when we see this.
Here are all the things we suggest and encourage our clients to do after any treatment, or just for daily skin rejuvenation:
- Broad Spectrum sun block SPF of 30 or above every single morning, even if it is not a full sun day.
- Sun block SPF of 30 or higher, every two hours, if you will be near the water, or walking through Garden City.
- Wearing a sun protection hat, like a wide brim hat or something of the sort if you will be out in direct sunlight for more than 20 minutes.
- Staying out of direct sunlight during peak hours 10-2 for at least 1 week, or after any treatment, or for any reason for 1 week.
- No sun tanning. Ever. Not even post treatment, but just no tanning at all, ever again.
All the clients, who have maintained their skin rejuvenation and their beautiful glow and texture for several months and years, they are always the ones, who take their sun protection and sun block seriously. It is not always the sexiest advice for your skin, but it works.
And don't think that the Winter months you get away with the sun because the air is cooler. 80% of the UV can get through the clouds, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, so no matter when you are in Murrells Inlet and close to the coast, your skin will be exposed to the UV even in the Winter months of January.
We would also encourage you to add a medical grade facial, every few weeks, in addition to your home care. That will help to make your skin more protected, and your skin texture will be even as well. We are looking at skin rejuvenation as an important process to protect your skin as a whole. Your skin has potential to be gorgeous for many years, you just have to remember to take the steps that will get you there after you have left our office.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about skin rejuvenation services in Murrells Inlet
How does living near the Murrells Inlet coast affect my skin rejuvenation results?
Coastal living speeds up skin aging faster than most people expect. Salt air, humidity, and UV rays bouncing off the water hit your skin from every direction. The Skin Cancer Foundation says water reflects up to 25 percent of UV rays back at you. That means extra sun exposure just from being outside near the inlet. We build your treatment plan around that reality so your results last longer and your skin stays protected between visits.
What skin problems does skin rejuvenation actually fix?
Skin rejuvenation treats a wide range of concerns, not just one issue. We most often help with sun damage, dark spots, acne scars, fine lines, dull skin, and uneven texture. You don't need to know exactly what you have before you come in. Most people just know something looks off. We look at your skin under proper lighting, ask about your history and lifestyle, and then match the right treatment to what your skin actually needs.
When is the best time of year to start skin rejuvenation treatments in Murrells Inlet?
Fall and winter are the best times to start because UV exposure drops and your skin can heal without extra sun stress. Starting in the cooler months also gives your skin time to build strength before summer hits. If you spend weekends near Garden City or out on the water, that extra UV reflection makes summer prep even more important. We help you build a schedule that works around Lowcountry seasons so your skin stays ahead of the damage.
How many treatments will I need before I see results?
Most people start seeing changes after two to four treatments, but it depends on what we are treating. Sun damage and dullness often respond faster than deep acne scarring or pigmentation. Consistency matters more than doing one aggressive session. Clients who come in every four to eight weeks almost always see better results than those who come in once a year. We set realistic expectations at your first visit so you know exactly what to expect and when.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my first skin rejuvenation visit?
You do not need to do much before your first visit. Come in with a clean face if you can, and be ready to talk about your skin history, any medications you take, and how much time you spend outdoors. The more we know, the better your plan will be. Skip any harsh exfoliants or new products for a few days before your appointment. We handle the rest once you are here.
Can skin rejuvenation help with sun spots that have been there for years?
Yes, long-standing sun spots respond well to the right treatments. Chemical peels and pigmentation-focused treatments are often the most effective starting point. Creams alone usually cannot reach the deeper layers where stubborn spots live. We see this a lot with clients who have spent years outdoors near the MarshWalk or working outside in Murrells Inlet. The spots did not show up overnight, and clearing them takes a real plan, but it absolutely works.
