Realistic Guidance for Your Unique Lifestyle
Many Murrells Inlet residents assume a consultation is simply a weigh-in with a lecture about healthy eating. It is not.

Instead, we start with your story: past efforts, what worked, what didn't. Chances are, you've already done your own weight loss homework and hit a roadblock. We want to know where you're at because often you already know your problem; it's just been harder to fix on your own.
Why a Consultation? What to Expect
So, what happens at the appointment?
- We review your health history and past treatments, including any thyroid issues, past surgeries, medications, and conditions such as insulin resistance.
- After we measure your body fat, you'll have more clarity on your current weight, and what that number on the scale really represents.
- If you have recent lab work from your primary care doctor or other specialist we review it with you. If you've been meaning to get your labs checked for a few years, this is a great opportunity.
- We discuss your daily lifestyle, including your eating habits, stress levels, sleep patterns, and overall activity.
- We'll recommend any medical treatments that would support your specific weight loss goals, such as semaglutide, tirzepatide, lipotropic, or appetite suppressant medications.
This isn't decided before we see each other. We've seen it time and time again; each body is unique.
If you have questions, such as what to prepare before a consultation? Bring your medication list. Any recent lab work or blood tests are always helpful too.
In our Murrells Inlet office, many patients living around Inlet Square ask how long a consultation visit takes, and if it's quick. It takes a lot of time with the team, and you can feel like you got your questions answered about your goals and what realistic life changes are needed today. Not in your hypothetical, idealistic Tuesday.
We won't give you a basic meal plan and send you away. We see that fail year after year. When you leave our office, you'll have a clearer picture and a direction you're on board with.
You Should Consider a Consultation if…
Maybe you've spent months counting calories. Or you've lost a few pounds and then gained them back. Maybe it feels like you're always trying to make changes but nothing is sticking.
A weight loss consultation isn't just reserved for those who have tried everything. It is for anyone who feels stuck. We talk to people in Murrells Inlet every week who aren't sure if they qualify. They almost always do.
These are some indications that it's time to sit down and discuss your weight with a professional who can evaluate the whole picture:
- You've lost and regained the same weight more than twice.
- You eat right and work out, but the scale won't budge.
- You constantly feel tired, groggy, or hungry no matter what you do.
- Your physician has noted that your blood sugar, cholesterol, or blood pressure require medical intervention.
- You're over the age of 40, and your metabolism just seems to have slowed down.
You only need to tick one of these boxes. Usually, people we treat identify at least three or four before they walk through the door.
Here's what we hear frequently from folks in the Inlet Square vicinity. They felt ashamed about asking for assistance because they felt they should be able to solve the problem by themselves. However, struggling with weight has nothing to do with willpower and has everything to do with hormones, metabolism, sleep, stress, and numerous other factors beyond what a food journal will ever reveal. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 40 percent of adults in the United States are obese.
It is not a personal flaw. Rather, it is a clinical reality.
So if you've found yourself Googling meal plans late at night, or if you wonder whether those intense cravings signal something more is wrong with your body, that is a sign you should book an appointment. You don't need another fitness application or weight loss program. What you require instead is an appointment where a medical professional will draw blood, assess your body composition, and create a plan based on exactly what your body needs in this exact moment.
Not in six months. Right now.
How to Prepare for Your First Appointment
Most people put too much thought into this. You don't need to start a specific diet before your first appointment to lose weight. You don't need to feel ashamed about where you're currently at. Just walk into the office ready to give us all the details.

That said, a bit of preparation makes a significant difference. This is what we ask all of our new clients to do before they arrive in Murrells Inlet:
- Compile a list of any medications you're currently taking (prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, or vitamins).
- Write out a list of what has worked, or not worked, for you in the past. (Diet programs, weight loss applications, fitness routines… anything goes! We want the full story.)
- Gather up any blood work you might have recently done from your primary care physician. (If you don't have any, that's okay! We can always draw some fresh blood at your visit.)
- Take a look at your current daily schedule. What time do you go to bed and get up? When do you typically eat during the day? How much physical activity do you participate in?
- Put together any questions you have. (Even just a single or two question provides us with some insight about what's most important to you personally.)
We meet with individuals every week who offer apologies because they didn't feel sufficiently prepared for this appointment. That is completely unnecessary. We want the time of your consultation to be used to assess where you currently stand. You don't have to have all of the answers before your arrival.
One helpful thing is to wear comfortable clothing to your consultation. This is because there will likely be a body composition analysis that we perform during your time with us, and comfortable clothing makes that part of the process simpler, faster, and more efficient. Nobody wants to be wearing tight-fitting jeans along with a scale, so we'd recommend comfortable clothing for this reason alone. Additionally, if you are coming from the Garden City area, and the Bypass, you may want to add a few minutes of travel time to your schedule to accommodate the traffic in the MarshWalk area, which tends to increase in traffic during tourism season.
Something you may not know is that we will ask about your sleep patterns, stress levels, and energy levels throughout the consultation. Weight loss isn't just about food. We also look at your hormones, habits, stress load, and much more. Giving us as much context as you can before your appointment will help us make something that fits into your life even faster.
Showing up is often the hardest part, and everything after is simply an ongoing conversation.
How a Personalized Weight Loss Plan Is Developed Around Your Lifestyle
We don't give everyone a standard meal plan. This has likely happened to you before. Perhaps someone at your doctor's office told you to "eat less and move more" and that was the end of their involvement. Maybe an app gave you 1,200 calories to eat every day with no consideration for your body, your schedule, or your food preferences.
And this method doesn't work. We see these individuals every single day. It's not just the standard meal plan, however. Your weight loss plan begins with listening to you, our patient.
As we discussed, during your weight loss consultation, we will ask about your daily schedule and your daily activities. How do you start your day? Do you make your own meals or grab what you need on your busy workday? Do you stand at work all day or sit?
These all go a long way in determining your ideal weight loss plan.
What Will Be Included in Your Plan
Once how you live your life, we will gather the correct set of tools to help you reach your goals. This includes:
- You will go over your body composition analysis results and lab results with us. You will see the baseline for your starting point.
- You will identify which approach your body responds the best to. That could include semaglutide, tirzepatide, lipotropic injections, or appetite suppressing medication.
- You will determine what type of nutrition and meal plan works best for you. It's hard to lose weight on something you don't want to eat!
- Regular check-ins to make sure you're on track with your plan so that you are able to identify problems in a timely manner rather than waiting for them to arise and grow.
Those who work long shifts in Murrells Inlet's restaurant industry have different needs than a retiree who walks on the beach first thing every morning, and each of those individuals deserves a weight loss plan that accounts for their reality. They'll come in and say, "I've got to change everything overnight." But you don't have to. Small changes you can stick to are much more effective than drastic overhauls that you'll abandon in two weeks.
Your plan also accounts for hormonal factors. If your labs show imbalances, we may look into hormone therapy as part of the equation. More often than not, there is a reason your weight has become stuck, and it has nothing to do with willpower. You need a plan that you can follow on a Tuesday night when life gets crazy and you don't have time for anything complicated.
Not just a plan that you'll follow on Sunday after you've meal-prepped everything for the week.

How We Track Your Progress (Beyond Just the Scale)
Most people want to know about just one thing: The scale. However, here is what we tell everyone we see in our Murrells Inlet location: The scale is only ONE piece of the puzzle when you're losing weight.

We have had clients who lose several inches off of their waistline, but their weight has changed a little bit if at all. That is still great progress; it just doesn't manifest the way you would think it would. Because of this, we don't just weigh our patients. We track a lot more than that.
So What Do We Track?
Body composition analysis is just one example. We have seen people who have been stuck on a number for so long who were finally able to see that they had lost fat and gained muscle. We take all of the other measurements that really matter.
A few examples are:
- Body fat analysis to see where the weight is coming off
- Measurements of the body (waist, hips, arms, etc.)
- Energy levels, sleep quality, and how your clothes fit
- Blood work markers when necessary to see how your metabolism is responding to the plan
So often we have people who think they have plateaued only to find out they are making significant progress. They just didn't know it, and without these measurements they couldn't have seen it for themselves.
We also focus on day-to-day changes. Are your cravings lessening? Are you sleeping better? Can you walk through the MarshWalk with a little bit more energy?
These things are important too and we look into them.
However, this is not an exhaustive list of everything you should track, nor are we suggesting that you need to do this on your own. This is why we recommend you follow up with us on a consistent schedule. At each check-in appointment, we compare your current stats to your baseline numbers and update your plan based on that data.
Most people don't realize how far they've actually come. We have the records, though, and once your client sits down in front of their three months' data the picture is much clearer. That is what keeps people going when they lose motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about weight loss consultation services in Murrells Inlet
What should I bring to my first weight loss consultation in Murrells Inlet?
Bring a list of your current medications, including supplements and vitamins. If you have recent blood work from your doctor, bring that too. Write down what you've tried before — diets, apps, programs. Think about your daily routine so we can ask the right questions. You don't need to prep a diet or feel ready. Just show up honest. We figure out your starting point together during the visit.
How long does the first appointment take?
Your first visit takes more time than a typical doctor appointment. We go through your full health history, run a body composition analysis, and review or order blood work. We also talk through your sleep, stress, eating habits, and daily routine. This isn't a quick chat. People near the Inlet Square area sometimes expect a short weigh-in. It's much more than that. Plan to spend real time with us so we can build a plan that actually fits your life.
Do I need to already be dieting before I come in?
No, you do not need to start a diet before your consultation. Come exactly as you are right now. The whole point of the first visit is to find your real starting point together. Many people who walk through our door in Murrells Inlet apologize for not being ready enough. That's not a thing here. Showing up honest is all we need from you. Everything else is our job.
Will I be prescribed medication at my first visit?
Medication is only discussed after we've done the full workup. We review your health history, body composition, and blood work before making any recommendations. Options like semaglutide, tirzepatide, or lipotropic injections might come up — but only if they fit your specific situation. Every body is different. We don't decide anything before we've done the homework. You leave with a clear medical picture and a next step you actually believe in.
Is a weight loss consultation only for people who've tried everything?
No, you don't need to have tried every diet out there to qualify. We talk to people in Murrells Inlet every week who aren't sure if they're the right fit. They almost always are. If your scale won't budge, you keep regaining the same weight, or your doctor mentioned blood sugar or blood pressure concerns, that's enough reason to come in. Weight isn't just about willpower. It's about hormones, metabolism, and things a food diary can't fix.
What if I'm coming from the Garden City area — is parking easy?
Parking is not a problem at our office. If you're coming from the Garden City area or anywhere along the Bypass, just give yourself a few extra minutes. Traffic near the MarshWalk can get unpredictable during tourist season here in Murrells Inlet. Also, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes if you can. We do a body composition analysis during your visit, and that goes a lot smoother without tight jeans in the mix.
