Understanding the True Impact of an Anti-Aging Facial
When clients first come to us, they often assume an anti-aging facial is simply an upgraded standard treatment. That misconception couldn't be further from the truth.

A conventional facial is designed to deep-clean your pores and provide a sense of calm for a few hours. In contrast, an anti-aging facial is far more strategic, focusing on the deeper structural levels of the skin, the specific zones where collagen is produced, cell regeneration occurs, and the earliest signs of aging develop long before they appear in the reflection.
During this specialized procedure, several key steps take place:
- Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped to active ingredients penetrate effectively rather than remaining on the surface.
- Professional-grade exfoliation is employed to strip away dead skin cells that contribute to a lackluster, fatigued complexion.
- Serums formulated with powerful components, including peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C, are applied to drive moisture and nutrients into the skin's layers.
- The session concludes with therapeutic masks or LED light therapy designed to stimulate collagen growth and reduce swelling.
Collagen reduction is a critical factor here. As noted by the American Academy of Dermatology, we begin losing approximately 1% of our skin's collagen annually starting at age 20. Our anti-aging facials not only help decelerate this depletion but also actively support your skin's natural ability to replenish it.
Here in Murrells Inlet, we encounter this situation daily. A patient might arrive concerned that their current moisturizer no longer seems to work, noting that their skin texture feels thin or that foundation accentuates fine lines that were previously invisible. These are often signs of internal skin changes, not just a need for a different cream.
The benefits of this treatment extend beyond simply looking rejuvenated; your skin literally becomes more robust. It retains hydration more effectively and repairs damage from sun exposure more rapidly. This is especially for clients who spend significant time outside near the MarshWalk or The Inlet, where the need for skin recovery is paramount.
Imagine this analogy: you can wash and wax your car weekly, but the paint still eventually requires a more intensive treatment. Your face operates on the same principle.

How the Coastlines Accelerate the Aging Process
You relocated to Murrells Inlet for the ocean breeze, the ocean view, and the unhurried lifestyle. Unfortunately, your skin has yet to adjust to the new conditions.
Coastal living exposes your skin to a greater intensity of UV radiation than typical lifestyles do. Ultraviolet rays bounce off the ocean water, off the white sand, and off the marsh grass during low tide, hitting you from multiple directions. This exposure extends well beyond just trips to the beach; it includes trips to the grocery store along the MarshWalk, evening dog walks in nearby Garden City, or simply relaxing in your screened-in porch. They accumulate faster than you would think.
The Skin Cancer Foundation estimates that UV damage accounts for up to 90% of visible skin aging. This has nothing to do with your genes. It has nothing to do with simply getting older. It is the sun inflicting actual harm upon your collagen and elastin, the two key proteins that support your skin's structure and firmness.
Still, the UV rays are not the only enemy. Salt air strips water from your skin. The humidity creates an illusion of well-being (your skin feels dewy so you opt to skip both your daily moisturizer and your SPF). The salt, on the other hand, eats away at your moisture barrier, day in and day out.
We have numerous clients who live in coastal environments. They are baffled about why their skin looks duller than the skin that used to belong to the same person.
This is what long-term coastal living does to your skin:
- Fine lines appear prematurely around the eye and forehead because of constant sun exposure.
- Uneven skin tones and dark spots form from UV rays reflecting off the water
- Your skin is textured and rough despite using an every day routine
- Collagen is degraded and the jawline looks less defined
Nine out of ten, a woman sits down and explains, "I wear SPF every single day." She does. But a single bottle of SPF can not repair damage that was sustained 5, 10, 15 years ago. This is where the anti-aging facial becomes necessary. It is designed to address the issues that coastal environments specifically inflict upon the skin.
It is not just fixing the dehydrated surface. It fixes the deep seated cellular damage that is occurring.
The environment here is not the same. It requires a unique set of strategies.
What to Expect From your Visit to Jolie Visage
You enter our studio. The consultation begins first.

This is the stage that most people are not expecting. Before a single product is placed onto your skin, we discuss how it has been performing lately. Do you have fine lines around your eyes? Is your skin dull in the jawline?
Is this sun damage from years of being at the beach? We want to know what bothers you, what you have already tried, and how your skin is typically feeling like on a daily basis. This sets the tone for the rest of the facial
The Process
Okay. Now how your skin is feeling. This is what the anti-aging facial looks like in real life:
- Your skin will be cleansed to remove all SPF, makeup, and debris so we can see the condition of the surface.
- Aestheticians will take a magnified close-up of the skin to determine hydration levels, the pore condition, and how much of your collagen reserves have depleted
- We will place active ingredients onto the skin, customized for your skin's needs today. Not for last week. Not for what your cousin told you.
- We'll gently exfoliate any dull, dead surface cells that make your skin look tired.
- We'll apply a hydrating mask while we massage some pressure points on your neck and shoulders.
- We'll finish with an SPF and a hydrating barrier that will be right at home in our humid Lowcountry climate.
All of these steps take about an hour or so, and sometimes our clients doze off during the mask step, which we absolutely take as the highest compliment.
Nine times out of 10, clients say their skin feels tighter and smoother before even seeing it in the mirror.
Every treatment is customized to each client, so the woman in her 40s struggling with hormonal imbalances will get a different treatment plan than the person in their 60s who has deep wrinkles from spending decades sunbathing on the water.
Every single one of our anti-aging facial treatments is designed around you and the condition of your skin and your concerns on that day. If you're wondering if an anti-aging facial is right for you, give us a call.

How Many Anti-Aging Facials Do You Need?
It takes more than one anti-aging facial to undo years of sun damage from the afternoons spent at the MarshWalk, sadly.
However, we always tell our clients when they sit down in the chair that they will notice an immediate difference after their first session. Our facial treatments tighten and brighten your skin, so clients can usually expect to see a difference in their face on the same week after their first appointment. The results are real! You just need some follow-up to keep your results.
To see a real difference, most clients in Murrells Inlet need a series of treatments to see long-lasting results, depending on the concerns they are struggling with:
- Fine lines and shallow wrinkles: usually 3 to 4 treatments, every two or three weeks
- Deeper wrinkles and loss of elasticity: around 5 or 6 treatments to really hold the results
- Sun spots and skin texture: 4 treatments minimum, sometimes used in conjunction with a peel in between treatments
- Overall dullness and lifeless skin: 2 or 3 treatments typically do the trick
We typically see results like this from our clients after three sessions of anti-aging facials. Our skin cells turnover once every 28 days or so, so every time you treat your skin, you're improving the appearance of the one before it. If you need to miss one month between your anti-aging facials, that won't hurt your results; we just find our clients tend to see better and faster results when they stay consistent.
Once our clients finish their initial anti-aging facials, they often schedule monthly maintenance facials. Having an anti-aging facial once a month or every six weeks will keep the collagen production high to your skin is kept firm, just like going to the gym. You don't work out once and say, "I'm done."
And age matters less than you'd think. We've had clients in their late 30s who needed more sessions than someone in their 50s. It's skin history, water intake, local habits, and more. On your first visit, we will assess all of these factors, and create a plan for you.

How to Prepare and Protect Your Skin Before and After Treatment
Most people come in for their Anti-Aging facial prepared and ready. Not necessarily what they need to do before or after. This is just as important to your results.

Your skin should have a clean canvas to really work with so in the days leading up to your visit, please remember:
- Avoid retinol products 3 days prior to your appointment.
- Do not do an at-home exfoliating scrub for 48 hours.
- Bring in clean skin – you don't want to come with a full face of makeup or heavy layers of sunscreen (of course we're going to clean your face, but starting fresh makes our job easier).
- Avoid strong sun exposure for several days.
- Stay well hydrated before your visit.
We have seen too many people forget this, and then wonder why their friend got better results.
After you've received your anti-aging facial, you'll want to know a few things:
You are more vulnerable to sun damage as well as irritations in the days after an anti-aging facial. Especially if you will be on the MarshWalk or outside, you will want to take more careful precautions as the UV rays could be much more damaging.
We will provide you with aftercare.
And here is a big surprise: You may have some irritation or redness or tightness the evening of your treatment. Do not panic! This is very normal! You may begin seeing the effects the next morning.
The skin needs to cycle itself so you will really begin to see improvement a week from today. Take the time for the skin to renew itself and not add too many new products. Continue to protect your skin every single day using at least SPF 30.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about anti-aging facial services in Murrells Inlet
How many anti-aging facials do I need before I see real results?
Most people notice a difference after their first session, but lasting results come from a series of treatments. Your skin loses collagen gradually over years, so rebuilding takes more than one visit. We usually recommend starting with a session every three to four weeks. After four to six treatments, most clients see firmer skin, fewer fine lines, and a more even tone. Think of it like exercise — one workout helps, but a routine changes your body.
Is an anti-aging facial different from a regular facial?
Yes, and the difference is bigger than most people expect. A regular facial cleans your pores and feels relaxing. An anti-aging facial works on the deeper layers where collagen lives and fine lines actually start. We use professional-grade serums with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and peptides that push nutrients below the surface. You leave looking refreshed, but more importantly, your skin is actually functioning better and holding moisture longer.
Does living near the coast in Murrells Inlet make skin aging worse?
It really does, and most people don't realize how much. UV rays reflect off the water, the sand, and even the marsh at low tide. Salt air pulls moisture out of your skin barrier week after week. The Skin Cancer Foundation says up to 90 percent of visible aging comes from UV damage — not genetics. Clients near the MarshWalk and Garden City are getting more sun exposure than they think, even on cloudy days or just running errands.
What should I do to prepare for my anti-aging facial appointment?
Come in with a clean face if you can, but it is not required. Skip retinol or strong exfoliants for two to three days before your visit. Tell us everything — what products you use, any skin sensitivities, and what bothers you most. The more we know going in, the better we can customize your treatment. We do a full skin analysis before anything touches your face, so we adjust based on what your skin looks like that specific day.
How long does an anti-aging facial appointment at Jolie Visage take?
Plan for about an hour from start to finish. We spend the first few minutes talking through your skin before we begin. The treatment itself includes cleansing, skin analysis, serums, exfoliation, a hydrating mask, and finishing with SPF. Some clients fall asleep during the mask — we take that as a compliment. You can head back to your normal day right after, though we recommend skipping heavy makeup for the rest of the day.
Can an anti-aging facial help with sun damage from years of outdoor living in Murrells Inlet?
Yes, and this is actually one of the most common reasons people come see us. Sunscreen helps prevent new damage, but it cannot reverse what has already built up over years on the water. Anti-aging facials target dark spots, uneven tone, and the collagen breakdown that comes from chronic sun exposure. We see clients who have lived along the coast for decades and are finally seeing real improvement in their skin's texture and firmness after a consistent treatment plan.
